Dense red and dark berries, cinnamon, dusty oak, mineral, cocoa.
Plush, with supple tannins and buoyant acidity. Incredibly round, elegant and persistent.
The historic Castle of Cuzcurrita sits in the West of Rioja Alta, at its highest elevation. When the castle was refurbished and turned in to a state of the art winemaking facility behind the ancient stone walls, Internationally praised Spanish winemaker Ana Martín was brought in as head winemaker. The grapes are all estate grown and lie within ancient stone walls that surround the castle. Focusing on only one single label each year makes this an extraordinary example of purity and refinement. Unique among most Rioja wines, this is 100% Tempranillo. Ana chooses to split the wine in to three parts - each aged in French oak of varying ages for more or less influence on the wine. The wine is then harmonized before bottling, a rare look at combining different levels of oak influence on a wine. The quality of the grapes has been compared to that of premier estates in Bordeaux, in France, and for good reason. Ana's work is meticulous and the resulting wine is simply exquisite.
