Deep ruby-red in color with purple reflections, this wine shows rich notes of dark berries, clove, smoke and pepper. On the palate, layers of mineral and fruit notes are interwoven, accompanied by soft tannins, silky texture and excellent concentration.
SVMMA is a Latin word used to indicate that the epitome of knowledge has been reached. Indeed, as a result of two generations of care and research, the Falcó family has crafted this high caliber wine. Made from 60% Syrah, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot, the grapes are separately fermented and aged in French oak (10-14 months) before final assemblage. Mas Sorrer captures the charm of the region of Montsant with its steep slopes of old vine Garnacha and Cariñena that has inspired Sara Perez and Rene Barbier, Jr. the same way that Priorat did to their parents 20 years ago. Formerly known as the Fallset subzone of Taragona, Montsant’s 2,000 ha of vineyards were given their own DO in order to highlight their superior quality in 2001. The grand Montsant escarpment that gives this region its name rises majestically over diverse parcels that range from granitic sand around Falset, to compacted calcareous soil, to sites covered in codols (pebbles and larger rounded stones) to slate in others. This soil diversity coupled with the large number of old vines, gives Montsant wines their distinct element of terroir and complexity.
