The two winemakers, Joan & Josep, are the sons of Josep d’Anguera, the man who introduced Syrah to this region. They have taken over the winery and are moving to make wine in a style more in harmony with nature. Part of that means getting back to better farming, with their official Demeter certification forBiodynamic farming. They believe in less intervention, not allowing irrigation of vines which has become more commonplace in the region. Instead, the vines must struggle and produce grapes with greater concentration and finesse. Their wines present a lighter, fresher style that still displays the beautiful fruit and great mineral laced tones of the terroir of Montsant, just downhill from Priorat.
Planella is built on Cariñena but has Syrah for depth of fruit and Garnacha for brighter acid.
Fresh cherry and dark berries cedar, mineral & lavender. The palate is fresh, with good berry fruit, a peppery note and slight tannic grip. Rich & layered on the palate yet still fresh and vibrant.
