MOUTH

In the most rugged and hard to reach crags of the Sierra de Gredos mountainrange, old vines of gnarled Garnacha struggle to produce small quantities of fruit. The land lies between two other high altitude mountain wine regions, Mentridaand Vinos de Madrid. Daniel Jimenez-Landi and Fernando Garcia, two old friendsworking for wineries in these regions, decided to branch out in favor of the moreremote and difficult terrain they are now pushing to make its own D.O. The nameCommando G pays homage to a cult cartoon the two watched as children. “G”stands for Garnacha (and Gredos). Along with innovators in Priorat, they areredefining the classic Spanish workhorse grape, Garnacha, in to something thatcan rival the elegance and finesse of Pinot Noir in Burgundy or Syrah inHermitage. This is one of the most exciting new wine regions in Spain.
