Sweet Red Currants, Rhubarb, Cherry, Smoke
Plums, Lively Tannins And Acid
After making wine around the world, Kiko Calvo brought his experience home to his native Toro (Zamora). This experimental wine has been made in a 100% artisanal way: from the harvest to the tagging/labeling. The local expression Bigardo, or rebel, is used to describe a young person, who doesn’t care about what other people think and does things on his own way. Even the wine label reflects this, a picture of the oenologist’s hand, performing the sign of the horns, a hand gesture that means rebelliousness and refers to the place where this wine is made. All farming is organic or “logical” as Kiko would say, given the arid climate
The nose is full of sweet currants, red cherries, rhubarb and smoke. The palate has darker plum fruit and a lively balance of acid and tannins. Wines of Toro are typically massive, chewy wines, very high in alcohol. Kiko has created a wine that is truly a rebel in the region: lower in alcohol, lively and fresh.
