NOTES

Alejandro Fernandez is the godfather of Tempranillo. His Ribera del Duero wines are the benchmark for greatness in this region of bold, powerful wines made from Tempranillo. Dehesa la Granja is a project in unassuming Zamora, closer to the D.O. Toro, where the landscape shows a different expression of Fernandez’ favorite grape. Dehesa la Granja’s vineyards run along a river and are part of a working farm with other crops and livestock adjacent and boasts recovered underground tunnels used to age the bottles. Extended aging is a hallmark of these wines, which technically do not fall under a d.o. designation, but under the lower “Vino de la Tierra” label. As a result, the rules of the d.o. system do not apply and aging can extend further. The result is wines built to age and only released once they have had time to integrate and create a wine that is bold but with greater finesse and balance
